Canadian post-hardcore band Silverstein is back with their new song Skin and Bones. Recorded in Joshua Tree earlier this year, it is the first single from their (hopefully soon) upcoming 12th album.

When talking about the recording process, frontman Shane Told said that recording in the desert limited outside distractions and made him dig deep inside of himself. This song was inspired by the passing of his ex-girlfriend, whom he cared deeply about, who was murdered in early 2024. The last time Shane went so personal in his writing was on 2017’s Dead Reflection.

Speaking of Dead Reflection, this new song has major vibes from that album. It goes heavy right from the start, opening with Told’s signature scream over a loud riff before going into a yelled verse.

“They say that everything is black and white
You’re in the wrong or you do what’s right
But nothing’s fair, no one fucking cares
All I ever learned was tragedy”

The chorus is classic Silverstein catchiness and is sure to get the crowd singing loud at live shows. The song eventually slows down for the bridge with a talked vocal part that includes a quote from the Lord of the Rings before going a bit anthemic.

All in all, this song doesn’t reinvent their sound, but is a definite banger and a solid addition to the already stacked discography of one of the most consistent bands in the scene.
