Today( Flowers for Emily releasedtheir new EP titled Plastic. This is the third release to come from the Orlando-based midwest emo outfit in 2024. We are very excited to share a track by track of the EP from the band themselves!
Plastic was recorded in Gainesville, Florida with Producer John Howard. Written by the band during a time period of heavy change personally and musically, Plastic shows a darker subject matter, and more aggressive tone. Heavily inspired by Hardcore and Skramz, the EP stays in touch with the more usual emo stylings found on previous releases and contemporaries in the genre.
Plastic – This is the first song we wrote from the EP. This was around the time we were starting to take influence from a lot more heavy and post hardcore bands. The song was originally written with a much more traditional arrangement of the songs we were putting out, but over time we changed the chords and arrangement to fit closer to the music we listened to at the time. The chorus of this song features aggressive screams that we had yet to do in this way prior.
Mercy Courts – This song was written after the other two on the EP and we wanted a more chill slower song to contrast the aggressive more screamo inspired tracks. There is a lot of influence from 90s and 2010s slow core in addition to a much more bare bones emo sound on the song.
Tar – This song is a personal favorite of ours. The lyrics were written in a very difficult time and has lyrics displaying very dark emotions. Instrumentally this song was not originally written to pair with the dirty screaming vocals despite the aggressive and high gain tones featured, but in the process of arranging the song, it led to a far more emotional and vulnerable product to do so.
